However, government work can be very limiting to the entrepreneur. I wanted to do more, be more, interact and use my abilities to grow and to improve the conditions of those around me. I exercised my skills and desires in a community program – The Optimists' Club. Joined as a member, and inside of a year, was asked to be the youngest president ever, of the Washington DC, National Capital chapter; however, eventually had to leave, because I couldn't pass up an opportunity at The North Face. It was more financially rewarding and used & expanded my skills to grow and trim a company.
At The North Face, I worked as the center of an operations hub. I was responsible for the entire inventory planning of Canada. Integrating data and improving communication from product development, marketing, sales, sales history, production plans, Canadian taxes/customs duties, fill all needs (maximize revenues), minimize excess inventory (minimize expenses), and make the entire operation faster, more robust, and easier to generate results to improve the business -- across 4+ seasons at the same time. To be successful, I had to learn the products, learn their history, know their future, know how to sell the product, know the politics of the customers and the competition. It was a great challenge I thoroughly enjoyed.
With TGSCOM, it was the
opportunity to work for my own benefit. I had been
consulting for a year before I came onboard. The company
was born in Jan 2000. We grew it from zero sales to one of
the top in the industry in 3 years. The break between The North Face and TGSCOM was spent summiting Mt. Shasta at 14,162 ft, fishing for a month in Wisconsin (& the U.P.) & taking time for family, then another couple weeks traveling the National Parks and streams of California. The last three months were in Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Mexico Scuba diving and a couple weeks of surfing. Work hard, Play hard. Great times and some excellent people along the way.
